Ski and snowboarding equipment

You can take skiing or snowboarding equipment as part of your checked baggage so long as the bag is within 190 x 75 x 65cm.

Skis and snowboards must be packed in a protective bag and can be in the same bag as your boots or clothes. 

If you pack your boots separately from your skis or snowboard, your boot bag can be carried as your larger piece of hand baggage if it's within the correct dimensions. If it isn't, it must be checked in and will count as an extra checked bag.

For safety reasons you can’t board the aircraft wearing ski boots.

Let us know you are bringing your snow sports bag

As soon as you have made your booking, let us know that you’re bringing your snow sport bag, especially if you know that you are on a popular snow sport route. Your snow sport bag is more likely to travel with you if you tell us in advance and at least three days (more than 72 hours) before you fly. 

A snow sport bag is an oversize or out-of-gauge bag so check your snow sport bag in and drop it off at the out-of-gauge baggage belt no later than:

This will make it more likely that your bag will travel on the same flight as you.

Now here’s what you need to do........ Click on  let us know, this will open a page from BA.com in your browser headed Baggage information and additional bags. In the lower right hand corner is a little blue window which says “ start chat”, click on that. This gets you to a robot, which will ask for your first and last name, an email address and a telephone number, fill them in. After some preamble the robot will ask you what it can help you with today, put in “ I am travelling with skis on booking ref : ***** (put in your own booking reference). Then there’s some more info about baggage, and eventually it will ask if you would like to carry on chatting, choose the item you’d like to know more about below. Click onSnowsport, then it tells you all the dimensions etc. etc. then you get You'll need to speak to our live chat team to let us know you're bringing skiing or snowboarding equipment along. Would you like me to put you through now?- answer yes. Then you will be asked some details of your BA club account to verify your identity then you will get put through to a member of the customer services team, who will again go through the dimensions, then ask for name of other passenger on the booking, ( that’syour name) and how you booked(- BA.com.) Next Please confirm the dimensions and weight of Skis bag. You put( Within 190 x 75 x 65cm and weight up to 23kgs) or” within dimensions above”. Now you will be asked if they can add skis to all British Airways flights, answer yes, and they will confirm that they have successfully added skis to your booking. PHEW!
